Happy Independence Day Nigeria!

Nigeria just turned 60 today…

Despite the disappointment a lot of Nigerians have towards the growth of the nation, if we look on the bright side of events, we have a lot to be grateful for.

In that thought, I decided to pen down a little poem in honor of this day.

It’s that time of the year again
The very season everyone hopes for
When the thought of Independence is sane
And we imagine treating everyone with love.

The very atmosphere screams loudly
“The Giant Of Africa” proudly
Tenacity equipped in her citizens
As they journey across different seasons.

Tribalism dines with us
Hatred cures our heart
The message of love is false
Happy together, our hearts apart.

We are resilient in our actions
The land blesses us in great measures
We are black and proud
The strength of our ancestors in us abounds.

Good governance, equality and security in the land,
Greatness, love, peace and joy at hand,
Nigerians seek all these for they aren’t vanity
As we celebrate our nation at 60.

A country can’t exist without an identity. This identity is represented by its citizens. Whatever changes that must take place in a country must be done by the efforts of its citizens. Blaming one another won’t solve a problem at hand rather working together can!
